8 Months From Zero to Product Launch
Founder Context
Venture-backed security startup · seed-stage founders, no internal engineering team
How a venture-backed security startup went from a seed-round vision to a live AI-powered cloud security product, paying customers, and a Series A — in 8 months.
The Founder Situation
A two-person founding team with a seed round, a strong technical thesis, and zero engineers. They had nine months of runway and one shot at a product that had to be live, defensible, and Series-A-fundable before the cash ran out. The CTO they'd been trying to hire kept saying yes and then taking offers from later-stage startups. Their seed money was burning on advisors, recruiters, and wishful thinking.
Why We Were a Fit
They didn't need a long-term engineering partner. They needed a small senior team that could own the entire build, ship it inside 8 months, and hand it back clean once they raised. The shape of the engagement had to match the shape of the runway.
How We Shipped It
- Co-designed the agentless scanner architecture and LLM-pipeline in the Roadmap phase
- Picked boring tech on purpose: Python scanners, Go orchestration, Postgres state, Anthropic and OpenAI APIs
- Working code every Friday on a real staging environment from week 6 onward
- AI-paired delivery on the boilerplate (cloud SDK wrappers, test scaffolds); senior judgment on the multi-tenancy boundaries, the secret-handling architecture, and the policy engine
- First design partners onboarded in week 26 — well before launch, not at launch
What We Built
A real 3.5-person team — one named senior engineer with 10+ years in cloud security, one builder paired with AI tooling, one fractional product designer, and the founder of the studio as product partner on every weekly check-in. Multi-cloud agentless scanning across AWS, GCP, and Azure. LLM-powered finding summarization and remediation prioritization. Pre-mapped SOC 2 and CIS controls. A multi-tenant customer dashboard built on Next.js. Deployed to a production environment under the founders' direct control from launch day.
What This Means for Your MVP
If you're building in security, infrastructure, or compliance with a similar shape — a technical thesis, a seed round, runway that won't survive an 18-month build — this is the kind of engagement the Founder MVP exists for. Senior judgment on the parts that bite you in month six. AI on the parts that don't. A small named team you can hold accountable. And a hand-off plan from day one so you're never stuck with us.
- Live product in 8 months with three paying customers
- Series A closed at month 12 on the strength of product traction
- Multi-cloud coverage from launch (AWS, GCP, Azure) — no "we'll add it later" promises
- Clean handover to internal team post-Series A; runbooks and architecture docs included
- Founders kept full code, infrastructure, and IP ownership from day one
